Love them or hate them, Crocs are arguably the most iconic shoes to debut since the turn of the century. The shoes made their debut during the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show in 2002 – and sold out almost immediately. The founders of the Crocs brand did little by way of traditional marketing, and yet within a few short months, the shoes were increasingly popular across the USA. The original Croc, known as the Crocs Beach, is still available, as are a wide variety of other styles to suit the needs and interests of men, women and children everywhere.
Crocs were initially developed to be a boating shoe – the unique slip-resistant properties of the foam resin they’re made from made this an ideal purpose for the shoes. As Crocs gained popularity, a number of other – sometimes unexpected – uses became clear. For example, the shoes are exceptionally popular with medical staff for the comfort and support they provide.
Popular shoes in the Crocs collection today are available in a variety of styles, and to the surprise of many, they’re not all just ‘plastic shoes’ anymore. For men, check out Crocs fashionable Hi Cruiser, with genuine suede uppers; the Axle, with padded leather uppers and a chunky, rugged sole; and the Venture, a traditional-looking shoe with canvas uppers. Women will enjoy the variety of Crocs on offer as well, such as the Alice mary jane, the Celeste with suede upper and the soon-to-be-released Cypress mule with a chunky heel. Crocs for kids run the gamut from character-inspired versions of the traditional Beach to the All Terrain shoe-style Croc with a Velcro closure.
Buying Crocs online is relatively easy – but depending on how picky you are about which Crocs you’re after, you might do best to order them directly from the manufacturer. Keep an eye out for fakes – the popularity of Crocs has led to scores of knock-off brands on sale in shops online and in the high street. And, because Crocs are light, you should expect to pay less for shipping than you would for traditional shoes.
